An Important Update

Freightcom's Update Regarding COVID-19

Due to the rapidly changing nature of this situation, please know Freightcom is continuously monitoring and assessing the situation and will provide further updates as necessary. Please note the below measures being taken in the industry with regards to your shipments:

  • Effective immediately, the money-back guarantee for Express/Expedited/Guaranteed shipments when applicable is currently suspended until further notice.

  • Canpar is currently not accepting any redirect or address change requests for shipments in transit

UPS is currently not doing same day pick ups in high volume areas. If your pick up is not going through, please schedule it for the next business day.

After careful consideration, in light of the increased demand for air cargo capacity and the increased costs to maintain service during this emergency situation, UPS has decided to implement a global temporary peak surcharge.

Effective April 12 and until further notice, a temporary peak surcharge will apply to any pre-paid air service shipments originating from Canada to all international destinations and any import shipments coming into and invoiced in Canada (e.g. import freight collect shipments)*.

The temporary peak surcharge will be based on a rate per kilogram or pound, and is in addition to all existing rates, charges, surcharges and fees. It applies on the following service levels: UPS Worldwide Express®¹, UPS Worldwide Expedited® and UPS Worldwide Express Freight®².

  • Please ensure prior to shipping that your consignee will be accepting the shipment. Carriers may return any refused or undeliverable packages to the shipper as capacity for storage is minimal and it is essential to prevent backlog in carrier networks at this time. Please note storage and return charges would be applicable
  • It is crucial to be aware that certain areas or terminals globally could potentially need to limit their operations and this is being handled on a day to day basis. Delays in pickups, transit, and delivery could be a potential effect of this should the need arise.

  • Many drivers are not obtaining physical signatures at this time to mitigate the risk of contact and spread of the virus. They will obtain the name of the receiver and note that a signature was not obtained. Others are equipped with sanitizer and wipes for their handhelds and this will be gauged on a case by case basis.

  • Some freight terminals in affected areas are advising freight will not be held for pick up at this time as a precautionary measure.

  • Some cities under “shelter in place” guidelines currently have embargos in place for certain zip codes/areas. Please confirm with your receiver before sending your shipment out as carriers are unable to service these locations.

  • Due to the need for caution during these times, delivery times may be delayed by 1-3 days for international shipments. All shipments from Asia-Pacific have been temporarily suspended with some couriers.

  • All couriers and carriers remain fully operational with no other major changes thus far
