Shipping from Canada to the United States is a fantastic way to grow your business, but the process can sometimes feel complex. One of the biggest pain points for businesses and their customers is the uncertainty around cross-border duties and taxes.
That's why we're so excited to announce a new feature on our platform: a duties and taxes estimate for all U.S. bound shipments seamlessly included in your shipping cost.
What Does This Feature Do?
Our new tool provides a real-time, upfront estimate of the potential duties and taxes that will be due on your U.S. shipments, allowing you to pay these as a part of your shipping costs. The estimate is based on the item's value, classification, and other relevant factors.
How to Use the New Estimator
Using the tool is simple:
- 1) Simply log in to your account and create a new U.S.-bound shipment.
2) Enter your shipping details. When selecting DDP (Delivered Duty Paid – Bill to Shipper), you will be prompted to add important information including a description of your product and HTS code.
3) Once the information is added, the rates that appear will have duties and taxes estimated and included in the charge. You can view a breakdown of the charges by hovering over the total cost.
4) Select from the rate options and book your shipment.
In addition, you will also still have the ability to select DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid – Billed to Receiver) at this time. This option will show only the shipping costs; any additional costs will be passed to your receiver.
Please note that if your receiver fails to pay the duties, taxes or brokerage, or decides to deny the shipment altogether, any charges incurred will also be billed back to your account.
